PingTool runs on Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32 or 64 bit) and Windows Server 2008 / 2012 / 2016 / 2019 / 2022 / 2025. It requires .NET-Framework 4.
In addition to ICMP, PingTool gives you the ability to check if devices answer on certain TCP ports. You can achieve this by specifying a TCP port number in the properties of the object or by using the PortCheck command line tool. TCP ports are services provided by servers - most network devices provide TCP ports to enable clients to use applications..
The TCP PortCheck tool is integrated in PingTool and enables very
convenient port monitoring in real-time.
You can check single or multiple objects on a single or multiple TCP ports.
You can configure that a sound is generated in the event of a failure
(device does not respond). PortCheck can also be used independently of
PingTool as a command line tool.
Port check on "important ports" or on more than 1000 known TCP ports can be done with one click. You can configure yourself which port numbers are "important" for you. You can then use this selection again and again.
The results are displayed continuously in real time. They can also be written to a log file. The TCP PortCheck can be carried out for several objects on several ports with a single mouse click.
With the network speed test, it is possible to measure the network bandwidth between your own computer and a network drive at any time. The destination can be a UNC path or a path with a drive letter. All you need is write access to the network drive.
It takes only a few seconds to perform a single speed test. The bandwidth is displayed in Mbps (megabits per second). The speed tests already performed are listed on the left so that you can make comparisons with previous tests. The integrated speedtest tool is also able to check the performance of VPN connections. The results can be copied as text to other applications via the clipboard, for example to your HelpDesk system. The speed test only performs the minimum number of copy operations required to determine an accurate result. Since version 4.3 PingTool is able to perform scheduled speed tests and stress tests - the stress test places the network connection under permanent load. To increase the load you can start the Speedtest tool multiple times. The results history is saved for later analysis. More information about the network speed test tool...
PingTool can wake up computers in your network via Wake-On-Lan (Magic Packet). Simply open the context menu with the right mouse button and click on “Wake up computers (Wake-On-Lan)...” to wake up the selected objects. To prepare your computer and your network for Wake-On-Lan, please read this article: Wake-On-Lan Windows 11, which explains in 8 steps what to do - even if the PC to be woken up is in a different subnet. This often does not work straight away, as the routers do not allow the broadcast packets to pass through. Read more about PingTool, the Wake-on-Lan tool.
PingTool is not open source software, but free of charge - for private and business use. Thousands of administrators worldwide already use PingTool as their standard tool.
PingTool is portable software, so no installation is required. Rolling out via software distribution is easily done with a pure copying process. Simply ensure that all files from the download end up in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\PingTool and distribute a shortcut to PingTool.exe.
Yes. PingTool can check remote TCP ports in the GUI or via command line. Simply add the TCP port number in the GUI. If you would like to use the command line port check tool, click on "Port check on object(s)". This allows you to carry out detailed examinations. The TCP ping works independently of the target's operating system.
Ping with timestamp to a file is possible with extended logging. This allows you to create a logfile over a longer period of time (overnight / several days). All status changes (responding / not responding) are logged to a file by default for later examination.
Create a shortcut with an interval of 60 seconds: PingTool.exe -interval:60
There are extensive improvements, e.g. TCP PortCheck integrated in the GUI, E-mail notification, Real-time log, Dashboard. It is also possible to create user-defined right click actions. For a complete list please click here.
Yes, we are continuously developing PingTool. We release a new version at least once a year. The current version is 4.3. You can even influence the development of the software by making suggestions for improvements. Here is the link: PingTool - Suggestion for improvement. From time to time we also offer free PingTool webinars (60 min).
PingTool version 4.3 was released on 01-Nov-2024. There are many new features like sending configurations to colleagues, user-defined buttons, dynamic double-click actions and scheduled speed tests. Click here for a complete list of new PingTool features...

You are a network administrator and need a professional tool to monitor your networkPingTool helps you in your daily work as well as in emergency situations where it is important to keep a good overview.
■ You are a system administrator and want a real-time overview of your systems
PingTool provides a real-time overview with an adjustable monitoring interval from 1 second to 2 minutes. You can also monitor your application's TCP ports.
■ You are a firewall administrator and need a graphical ping tool that can also monitor TCP ports
With PingTool you are able to keep an eye on different objects on different ports - via GUI or command line. PingTool is portable, so you can easily start it on any Windows computer in a DMZ.
■ You are a HelpDesk employee and need an ad hoc ping tool with which you can also perform actions on the devices to be supported
PingTool offers you the possibility to perform numerous actions on one or more objects (RDP, Putty, Wake-On-Lan, ...) using the right mouse button. You can even define your own actions, for example to integrate your own remote control solution.
■ You are an application administrator and want to keep a constant eye on whether your applications are responding on the critical TCP ports
PingTool can monitor applications on the desired TCP ports. If an application does not respond, this is displayed immediately. It is also possible to send e-mails in the event of an error.
■ You are the administrator of your home network and want to ensure that all devices and Internet access are working properly
PingTool is ideal for monitoring different devices via ICMP or on specific TCP ports. No installation is necessary, you can get started immediately.
■ You are the administrator of your Home Assistant network and want a complete overview of the functionality of the systems
PingTool can monitor your devices via ICMP and TCP Port Ping with an adjustable monitoring intervall from one second to two minutes.
The ping command is one of the most important tools of a system or network administrator. By default, it is executed via the command line. At some point, administrators asks themselves whether there is a more convenient way of executing ping commands than via the command prompt. If you have to monitor several objects at the same time, it quickly becomes confusing. A graphical user interface (GUI) can solve this problem. PingTool is a Ping GUI with many additional features.
►
Good performance► Saveable configurations
► Good visualization
► Portable tool
► Free of charge
In addition to pinging, the tool can also query TCP ports of remote hosts, wake up computers via Wake-On-Lan and perform network speed tests. Configurations (the object lists) can be saved. Repositories are used in larger environments. Repositories offer the possibility of providing all administrators with the same basis of configurations. PingTool is able to scan the network or transfer objects from Excel or text files. The PingTool Dashboard displays the ping results in a red and a green container - very interesting in difficult environments.
PortProvider is the perfect counterpart to PingTool. This small tool provides "dummy" TCP ports and is therefore very suitable for troubleshooting TCP connection problems. After starting the PortProvider, you can specify one or more TCP port numbers on which a listener is to be started. A command line window opens for each listener. You can start the listener on a machine in your network to test the connection with PingTool. This allows you to examine whether the application is not working or whether a firewall is blocking network traffic on a specific TCP port.
