PingTool: Manual Backups

In addition to the menu-guided backup, manual backups and partial backups can also be created.

Create a manual backup

To create a manual backup, you can simply copy the folder %localappdata%\PingTool (for example C:\Users\Miller\AppData\Local\PingTool) and use it again later (or on another computer). Of course, you can also have this done automatically by a scheduled task on a regular basis.

Perform partial backups / restores

You can also restore parts from a manual backup or a menu-driven backup. You can also restore parts of a PingTool installation from another computer.

Example 1: You only want to copy some configuration files (containing the objects) from a backup, but no settings for mail notifications and user-defined actions. To do this, copy the .cfg files from a backup (or from another computer) from the Configs directory to your %localappdata%\PingTool\Configs directory. If you have a backup as a zip file, you can simply unzip it and use the .cfg files.

Example 2: You do not want to use configuration files (containing the objects) from a colleague, but only the settings for mail notifications and user-defined actions. To do this, copy the file %localappdata%\PingTool\Options\Options.ini from another computer to your %localappdata%\PingTool\Options directory. If you have a backup as a zip file, you can simply unzip it and use the Options.ini file.
