System requirements

PingTool runs on Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32 or 64 bit) and Windows Server 2008 / 2012 / 2016 / 2019 / 2022. It requires .NET-Framework 4.

TCP port check

PingTool gives you the ability to check if devices answer on certain TCP ports. You can achieve this by specifying a TCP port number in the properties of the object or by using the PortCheck command line tool. TCP ports are services provided by servers.

The TCP PortCheck tool is integrated in PingTool and enables very convenient port monitoring in real-time. You can check single or multiple objects on a single or multiple TCP ports. You can configure that a sound is generated in the event of a failure (device does not respond). PortCheck can also be used independently of PingTool as a command line tool.

Port check on "important ports" or on more than 1000 known TCP ports can be done with one click. You can configure yourself which port numbers are "important" for you. You can then use this selection again and again.

The results are displayed continuously in real time. They can also be written to a log file. The TCP PortCheck can be carried out for several objects on several ports with a single mouse click.

 

Network speed test

With the network speed test, it is possible to measure the network bandwidth between your own computer and a network drive at any time. The destination can be a UNC path or a path with a drive letter. All you need is write access to the network drive.

It takes only a few seconds to perform a single speed test. The bandwodth is displayed in Mbps (megabits per second). The speed tests already performed are listed on the left so that you can make comparisons with previous tests. The integrated speedtest tool is also able to check the performance of VPN connections. The results can be copied as text to other applications via the clipboard, for example to your HelpDesk system. Wake-on-Lan

PingTool can wake up computers in your network via Wake-On-Lan (Magic Packet). Simply open the context menu with the right mouse button and click on “Wake up computers (Wake-On-Lan)...” to wake up the selected objects. To prepare your computer and your network for Wake-On-Lan, please read this article: Wake-On-Lan Windows 11, which explains in 8 steps what to do - even if the PC to be woken up is in a different subnet. ► How much does PingTool cost?

PingTool is not open source software, but free of charge - for private and business use. Thousands of administrators worldwide already use PingTool as their standard tool.

► How can I roll out PingTool in my company?

PingTool is portable software, so no installation is required. Rolling out via software distribution is easily done with a pure copying process. Simply ensure that all files from the download end up in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\PingTool and distribute a shortcut to PingTool.exe.

► Is PingTool able to ping TCP ports?

Yes. PingTool can check remote TCP ports in the GUI or via command line. Simply add the TCP port number in the GUI. If you would like to use the command line port check tool, click on "Port check on object(s)".

► How can I ping with timestamp to a file?

Ping with timestamp to a file is possible with extended logging. This allows you to create a logfile over a longer period of time (overnight / several days). All status changes (responding / not responding) are logged to a file by default for later examination.

► What's new in version 4?

You can download PingTool here as a zip file. Extract the zip file and copy the content to your program files folder, e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\PingTool, then run PingTool.exe.

Installation

PingTool is a portable software. It does not require any installation and does not make any Registry entries.

1. Extract the .zip file (important).
2. Run PingTool.exe.
   
   

Upgrade from an older version 

Proceed as follows if you are already using an older version of PingTool. Your previous objects and configurations will not be touched.

1. Select all files from the current download, except the PingTool.ini file
2. Overwrite the files of your existing installation with the selected files

PortProvider

PortProvider is the perfect counterpart to PingTool. This small tool provides "dummy" TCP ports and is therefore very suitable for troubleshooting TCP connection problems. After starting the PortProvider, you can specify one or more TCP port numbers on which a listener is to be started. A command line window opens for each listener. You can start the listener on a machine in your network to test the connection with PingTool.
